MAROVO LAGOON

East Lagoon

Situated in what scientists have labeled the richest coral reef triangle on the planet, Marovo Lagoon is acclaimed by those lucky enough to have been there as the eighth wonder of the world.  Stretching for over 100 miles, Marovo is the worlds largest protected lagoon.  Bounded on the inward side by the main islands of Nggatokae, Vangunu and New Georgia and on the outward side by numerous miniature islands, islets, atolls and shoals, it is as tropically picturesque above water as it is tantalizingly diverse underwater.

Marovo's mirror calm waters hide a treasure trove of a mostly unexplored and unimaginably wealthy marine ecosystems.  Plunging walls, dazzling points, fairyland coral gardens, vibrant nursery sand falls, shaded canyons -- every inch sparkling with electric colored animals vying for a home.  These are but a few of the marvels waiting to be explored.  Sensory overload is a constant companion with major decisions being, "Do I look outward and revel in schools of jacks, barracuda, ocean triggers, unicorns with their shark escorts, OR do I gaze inward  at the brilliantly colored reef, pulsing with the processes of making a living in a highly competitive world?".

And very soon, you may be among the few fortunate enough to join in the exploration of the hidden treasures of Marovo with Solomon Dive Adventures, a new charter catering to experienced divers and specializing in marine education.  For 30 years, Lisa Choquette, was co-owner and operator of Dive Makai Charters in Kona, Hawaii.  Rated by Undercurrent as a world-class guide, Lisa has earned a well-deserved reputation for her ability to find and communicate about rare animals and unusual behaviors.  She has been a dedicated marine educator and voice for conservation in Hawaii, and now wishes to "retire" in her second home in the Solomon Islands.
